Description

This is my entry for the Icarus competition held by :iconstockandresources: The story explaining this deviation can be found here, do read it! [link]

The guy in the background is Daedalus. It would have been awesome if I could find some male steam punk inventor stock but no such luck. But this guy had a cool pose :D Some steam punk glider wings would have also been cool but ah well. The copper does have a good look to it

Some useful tutorials that helped me pen tool. I still haven't gotten then hang of it in photoshop (Why is the same tool so different in Illustrator?) and I think someone actually needs to sit next to me and go through it step by step but these helped a bit. [link] [link]

So, some questions are
1. Does the background distract you from the main content and foreground of the image at all?
2. Does Daedalus stand out enough or too much? I digitally painted him a little - how is the painting? How is the lighting and shadow on him?

I am also from #Critique-It.

I think this is excellent! Though, enlarging the picture kind of takes away that initial wow-factor, due to you can see some of the details that point out where something is a manipulation.

(Giving it a second look enlarged, actually, those features seem to be less noticeable than I thought at first.)

The only thing that distracts me is the darkness. It kind of makes it hard to take in everything that's there to see. Other than that, I would not say the background distracts at all.

If you meant for Daedalus to be where he is in the picture, I think he's perfect. He's got enough light on him to make him a feature of the picture, and the red cuffs help pinpoint him too.
